Altenew’s 3rd Anniversary Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hey Fellow Fawns & New Friends!

Welcome to the Freckled Fawn stop on the Altenew’s 3rd Anniversary blog hop. I’m design team member Kristin (rukristin) and today I’m sharing with you an art-journaling inspired mini-album.

For this project, I started with a pre-made notebook and the envelope it slipped into. The inside pages are decorated with Freckled Fawn clear acrylic frames (from the April kit), the Altenew Hello Sunshine stamp set, black ink (VersaFine) and two sets of colored pencils (Jane Davenport and Spectrum Noir – Florals).

My first scrapbooks (back when I was in high-school) were in little notebooks just like this one. I would glue in some photos, add some embellishments, and doodle around the pages to fill in the white space. When I saw the colorful frames, I immediately knew I wanted to pair them up with some hand-drawn stamped images that I could color in.

As I was flipping through the Altenew stamp sets, I fell in love with the hand-drawn florals of the Hello Sunshine set (they also have a coordinating die set). It has a great mix of florals and leaves, and it’s perfect for creating fun stamped backgrounds.

The mini-album that I used was made with thinner notebook-style paper, so there was no avoiding a little see-through to the other side, and I embraced that. It was the exact same way when I was making my scrapbooks in high school. It gives the project additional character.

I decorated the front of the album (and the envelope it came in) with Freckled Fawn journaling cards, and embellishments from the April kit. But the star of this mini-album are the color-matched inside pages.

To create the inside pages, I picked out a few of my favorite Thursday3 selfie photos. I love having a reserve of pictures that I can pull for a fun project. I matched up the photos to the acrylic frames and trimmed the photo down to fit inside the frame.

For each page, I first added the photos and the frames. I then went back and stamped on each set of pages. I created a unique background pattern on each page, fitting the stamped images around the photo frames.

My next step was to color in the stamped images. I chose colored pencils for this project because they don’t bleed through the thin paper, and I’ve been obsessed with blending them to create even more colors.

For each page, I chose colors that matched the frames. I loved spending each page working with a different color family. I think it gives the album even more whimsy. To finish up my album, I added small bits of journaling phrases underneath each of the photo frames, usually about my outfit or how I’m feeling in that photo.
