Awesome Ladies Mini Book by Megan

Hello, Fawn Fanatics! Megan here. Today I’m going to share the first part of a scrapbooking workshop trip album with you!

Last month I went to Michigan to attend Awesome Ladies Live, an event put on by The Awesome Ladies Project. This was such an amazing experience full of wonderful instruction and projects from fellow FF creative team member Kristin, plus quality time with old and new friends. It was so inspiring me to hear about other women’s joys and challenges of telling their stories.

Currently, I’m putting together a minibook about the event. To keep things simple for myself, I stuck with mostly patterned paper backgrounds from my stash and the July 2017 Freckled Fawn kit throughout the album, plus a few journaling cards.

This spread has a collage of photos from the second half of the workshop, with ALP letter stickers, and a page with a photo Kam took of me with a “this is my story” patterned paper I made in the workshop. I added a scrap of paper to journal on for this page, starting off my journaling with a glitter arrow sticker and adding a star chipboard sticker to the top corner of the photo.

For this album, I decided to jump around to work on pages that fit with the papers I’d pulled from my stash and ideas for pages I was getting from the July kit. Sometimes this helps me to get motivated on a bigger project–it’s easier for me to go where I’m inspired, then fill in the gaps, than it is for me to try to plan a whole album at once.

This spread has my thursday3 selfie in the spot Kristin often takes hers and my friend Amy reading in Kristin’s hammock with our foster daughter (alias Tiny).

I kept these pages very simple: label stickers to add in a bit of journaling for context, a line of glitter icons on the left page and a wood topper paper clip and doodle phrase rubber shape on the right.

The night before the event started I went to see the musical Fun Home with friends, which was fantastic. I used a yellow cardstock background so I could go busier with the embellishments–I added a line of them down the side of the page for journaling, along with a ticket chipboard sticker. I saved the bits of the label overlap that I cut off for the facing page. The bits I didn’t use went back on the sticker sheet for future use. I also added the title with letter stickers and a glitter icon sticker.

The facing page is about the rest of the night when we got back–more friends getting into town, shared dessert, and Tiny “helping” Kristin make rolls. I finished this page off with a border of washi on the top and bottom of the page (with a rubber word hidden in the washi), journaling directly on the photos, a chipboard star sticker, and leftover label bits. The embellishments really helped me to ground the photo placements.

The first part of the Awesome Ladies Live event was a barbecue at Kristin’s, and I just couldn’t wait to scrap these group photos that Jake took of us. I added watermelon flair to the right page, since I didn’t get many food photos, and the title “together” with the chipboard flair.

These pages kick off the main ALP: Live event Saturday! We had a 30 Days of Lists sponsored breakfast with a big group of ladies and then started rukristin’s day long workshop.

On the left page, I added a photo I took of my pie, coffee, and #30Lists swag! I added a Love Journal Card with a letter sticker + handwritten title and a paper scrap to add journaling. I also added a little chipboard “get together” phrase sticker at the bottom.

For the right page, I put on a big collage of photos from the first half of the workshop. The “hi” chipboard sticker ended up being super cute on top of the Awesome Lady zipper pouch photo! I added a bit of journaling to the side, which I went over multiple times so it could be read on top of the busy scissor patterned paper.

Eventually these two pages won’t go together. I have to track down the group photo outside of the restaurant and I’ll back it with the schedule for the workshops plus a little description of the event as a whole.

I made a spread covering our rest after the main event Saturday. Tiny and friends hanging out on one side, playing Rock Band on the other. I kept the left side simple with just a chipboard arrow sticker.

On the right, I added journaling on a card from the Every Moment Counts set, added a rubber phrase shape, and finished off my photo block with a bit of doodle washi (which I trimmed down to get phrases that worked on this page).

Last, I made a spread about the famous MSU Dairy Store, which was part of the East Lansing sight-seeing that the ALP: Live group did on Sunday. The ice cream was delicious (well worth staying later in the day Sunday, even though we had a 12 hour drive ahead of us) and I’m glad I was there to celebrate one of the attendees on her birthday!

On the left I included a 6×8 photo of Kristin and I with a title made from letter stickers and handwritten on a chipboard label. I also put a little glitter star in the corner of the photo.

The right page has a photo of me and my ice cream cone, Melissa as we sang happy birthday to her, and a group shot of ice cream picks. I placed these photos into a collage block and added white cardstock to the empty space so I’d have room for journaling. A label sticker gave me room for a tiny bit more journaling and I finished the page off with an ice cream chipboard sticker and a little phrase sticker!

I still have many more pages to make for this album, but I’m going to take a break for now and switch back to pocket scrapbooking! I love that laying the groundwork means that I’ll be able to finish this album quickly when I’m ready. (But first I should probably finish editing and sharing the photos from the event with the participants!)

Thanks for stopping by!
