Weekend Getaway Traveler’s Notebook Spreads by Kim

Hi there, Kim here!

We recently went to Columbus Ohio for a rare weekend getaway! I wanted to document some stories from this journey and why not do it while fresh in out minds hearts- on the way home in the car!

I used the April Freckled Fawn Embellishment Kit for these three layouts as well as a new blank travelers blank notebook insert.

Which at first glance is quite bright and floral-ly but it is so modern and sharp at the same time!  (I love the polygon shapes!)

Yellow and black are surprisingly stricking with purple, a color combo I’ve not used before! Using the screen shots from Instagram Stories and Snapchat I saved them in a grid photo collage and printed them out at a Walgreen’s as we were leaving town. Not bad for $1.05! The frames and journal cards we great bases for two of the pictures.

On the next page, I used a more subdued palette, teal and red/pink.  2 more journal cards were bases, but also the sticky note paper was one as well!  I also was a bit cheeky, using one of the long enamel diamond stickers as a torch in honor of Olympian Jessie Owens.

My last double page was for the zoo.  The green journal card was perfect on an angle while using several of the chipboard “lovely day” stickers as accents.

And no, my handwriting is much to be desired for but not bad for a jiggly car with no table. Not a bad use of time, a couple of hours, plus my documenting is complete!

Thanks y’all!

XO,

Kim

This Place Scrapbook Layout by Jen

Hello lovelies,

Jen here!

I love the acetate frames included in the April kits. SO MUCH! For this layout I decided to smoosh some ink on the background in the same colors as the frames and I love the way the coordinating frames look on top. It created a nice little backdrop for my photos.

The black and white puffy cameras are so cute on their own, but I decided to customize them here by using alcohol markers!

Adding some die cuts and enamel dots from my stash and chipboard pieces from the kit were the perfect finishing touch! You can watch my process in the video below!

Jen

Frames Layout by Sandra

Hello lovelies,

Happy Easter, & welcome to the blog today. It’s me, Sandra, and I’m sharing a scrapbook layout that has a lot of acrylic frames from the April kit on it. The inspiration for the layout came when I flipped through this month’s journaling cards. One of them has an overall frame pattern and I just love it! So I used the colorful acrylic frames that are in the April kit and built my own background. Let’s have a closer look.

I placed color-matching chipboard stickers on top of the frames and I also added two photos to the frames.

I love how versatile the acrylic frames are. They can be used to display photos or to hold your journaling or you can just decorate them with the cute chipboard stickers from the kit. I hope you enjoy these frames just as much as I do. Have a wonderful day!

XO,

Sandra

Altenew’s 3rd Anniversary Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hey Fellow Fawns & New Friends!

Welcome to the Freckled Fawn stop on the Altenew’s 3rd Anniversary blog hop. I’m design team member Kristin (rukristin) and today I’m sharing with you an art-journaling inspired mini-album.

For this project, I started with a pre-made notebook and the envelope it slipped into. The inside pages are decorated with Freckled Fawn clear acrylic frames (from the April kit), the Altenew Hello Sunshine stamp set, black ink (VersaFine) and two sets of colored pencils (Jane Davenport and Spectrum Noir – Florals).

My first scrapbooks (back when I was in high-school) were in little notebooks just like this one. I would glue in some photos, add some embellishments, and doodle around the pages to fill in the white space. When I saw the colorful frames, I immediately knew I wanted to pair them up with some hand-drawn stamped images that I could color in.

As I was flipping through the Altenew stamp sets, I fell in love with the hand-drawn florals of the Hello Sunshine set (they also have a coordinating die set). It has a great mix of florals and leaves, and it’s perfect for creating fun stamped backgrounds.

The mini-album that I used was made with thinner notebook-style paper, so there was no avoiding a little see-through to the other side, and I embraced that. It was the exact same way when I was making my scrapbooks in high school. It gives the project additional character.

I decorated the front of the album (and the envelope it came in) with Freckled Fawn journaling cards, and embellishments from the April kit. But the star of this mini-album are the color-matched inside pages.

To create the inside pages, I picked out a few of my favorite Thursday3 selfie photos. I love having a reserve of pictures that I can pull for a fun project. I matched up the photos to the acrylic frames and trimmed the photo down to fit inside the frame.

For each page, I first added the photos and the frames. I then went back and stamped on each set of pages. I created a unique background pattern on each page, fitting the stamped images around the photo frames.

My next step was to color in the stamped images. I chose colored pencils for this project because they don’t bleed through the thin paper, and I’ve been obsessed with blending them to create even more colors.

For each page, I chose colors that matched the frames. I loved spending each page working with a different color family. I think it gives the album even more whimsy. To finish up my album, I added small bits of journaling phrases underneath each of the photo frames, usually about my outfit or how I’m feeling in that photo.

Thank you so much for checking out my project here on the Altenew 3rd Birthday Blog Hop

Cuddled with Wes Layout by Jen

Hi lovelies, Jen here!

This week I’m sharing my project based on the April Sketch Challenge. I love working from sketches. It’s such a great jumping off point and I can always make it work with what I have. I swapped out the single photo for two smaller photos and I’m really happy with how this came out!

I painted the wood veneer arrow from the April embellishment kit with white acrylic paint and added a word sticker (from February’s kit) and one of those glorious puffy cameras!

The wonky chipboard circles from the kit worked perfectly for my photos and I added a yellow acetate frame – which I cut in half to stretch my supplies – in the top right and bottom left.

Hope you’ll give this sketch a try! I had lots of fun with it. 🙂

XO,
Jen

Zoo LE Layout by Sandra

Hi and welcome to the FF blog today. It’s me, Sandra, and I’m sharing a scrapbook layout inspiration with the wonderful April Embellishment Kit. When I received the kit, I immediately fell in love with the floral pouch and the colorful acrylic frames. I totally wanted to use the white frames and decided that they would best be staged on a dark background. I built the layout from bottom to top. First, I cut out a photo from a visit to Leipzig Zoo.

Then I placed the photo on top of one of the white acrylic frames and started to decorate all the way to the top of the layout by using some of the cute chipboard stickers, three wooden shapes and one of the cool camera puffy stickers that are in the kit.

I placed the journaling in the top white frame – a nice way to use the acrylic frames. I also added the layout title to one of the cool wooden arrow shapes with the alpha stickers from the kit.

I totally adore the chipboard sticker saying ‘makes me happy’. Isn’t it cute?

I’m hoping you like my inspiration today.

Have fun creating,

XO,
Sandra
