Hello everyone! It’s Megan! I was so excited when I saw the feather and love motif in this month’s February 2017 Freckled Fawn embellishment kit kit! I knew immediately that I wanted to start documenting our new bird, Hermes.
Of course, the feathers are great even if you don’t have an avian friend, feathers can be good for documenting love (think “birds of a feather flock together,” “our nest,” or even “you ruffle my feathers”).
I love all of the colors in the kit–it gave me so many options! But sometimes options are overwhelming. If you are having trouble choosing which elements from a kit to use, try just picking two or three colors and sticking with those. This can also help you get out of the mindset of the kit’s theme (February’s kit isn’t just for Valentine’s Day!). For my layout, I choose to use mostly the teal with a few pops of pink.
I had fun making this layout on the diagonal, using a combo of photos and pocket scrapbooking cards for big “stripes” and embellishments from the kit for smaller stripes. I added two teal “love” strips from the washi booklet across the middle, a pink feather washi strip in opposite corners, and finished the corners off with puffy border stickers.
This is a really easy design to scraplift and can be used with lots of different photo size variations!
I used the vellum phrase stickers as a border for this card and added an epoxy heart in the center–which meant that some of the sticker went off the edge of the page and was cut off. Epoxy takes some force to cut through and sometimes the piece you cut off will go flying, so be careful!
I added two button stickers and a feather chipboard sticker to a journaling card. The feathers can be used like arrows, pointing in the direction you want the viewer’s eye to travel on the page.
I finished off the page with the big wooden “I love you” heart in the middle of a feather card!
I’m so happy with this first page about Hermes and I know I’ll be making tons more.
Do you document your pets? How about using this month’s kit as a love layout for your feathered, furry, or gilled friend? I’d love to see what you make!
