I usually like to use sketches as a challenge to myself, trying out different page sizes or translating them as a pocket page design, but I decided to follow the sketch closely this month as a way to get myself out of a creative slump. It was so nice to complete a page without having to put too much thought into it, and having the elements from the May kit picked out already made it especially easy.
My only major change was making the photos bigger. Making one of the photos black and white helped put focus onto the color one, which is a good trick to use if you have two similar photos that are the same size!
Because I used a patterned paper as a background, I stapled the acetate speech bubbles to white cardstock and cut them out so they’d show up well!
I also used tiny enamel dots from the May Planner Kit in place of stars, because I always need more purple supplies!
Because my bigger photos spread across the full page, the clip on the side of the photo block on the sketch wouldn’t work. I moved the circle shape on the sketch up a bit and switched out a clip for resin flair (more purple!).
I also included a purple cardstock sticker as a place to add the date (and as a way to create a purple visual triangle).
To make the thin alpha work on the patterned background, I traced each letter with marker to make sure the title popped.
I added journaling on vellum with a typewriter, adhering it with a staple and another enamel dot.
I loved this sketch! Finishing it helped me get back on a good creativity kick!
Are you doing a project with this month’s sketch too? I’d love to see it!
